Take a Break from Your Work at Home Business

Recently I have heard some conversation about taking a break from all things business. We may not realize that, because we work at home, we still need a break every once in a while. Even if it is just a day or two, it may help you to come back with a fresher mind and ready to tackle all the things that are required for your business to become successful.

I know for myself, I think that I don’t need a break because I’m all day and just pop off and on the computer when I have time. If anything, I think that may cause more harm than good because there is not a solid schedule. I know I need to work on that but sometimes it is just impossible with all the kids home. Four kids to be exact! Hopefully in the fall things can be scheduled more efficiently. Right now I just do what I ca, when I can.

Some people might feel guilty taking some time off, but there is nothing to feel bad about. People working at home need to recharge their batteries just as much as someone working outside the home. It keeps the mind clear and fresh and will help with new ideas for your work at home business.

In a recent forum discussion a woman took a week off to de-clutter her home and came back with fresh ideas and a new sense of drive for her business. If we all don’t have time to take a whole week off, then even a day or two would be beneficial. The key is to not do anything business related though. Try to not even turn on the computer if that is the type of work at home business you are involved in.

Do things that are fun with your family and also take some time to do things by yourself. Just relaxing with a book can be enough for some people. Get your mind on something other than business.

So, with that said, go do something fun and try not to think about your work at home business too much. Oh and thanks to Ros for inspiring this post!

Making Money at Home Using the Internet - Scam or Not?

When I first started my journey to starting an online business I only did it once I saw that a family member was making money. I have been on the internet for 10 years and always ran across the banners and ads about making money at home, but just shrugged it off as a scam.

I was always interested though, so the nagging feeling of wanting to make money at home using my computer was always under the surface. I just didn't want to put money into it and then lose it because it was not legitimate.

Since there are some scams out there, it really ruins it for the legitimate opportunities. Some scams consist of the people at the top of the "pyramid" to be paid a large amount of money and then the ones at the bottom get a very small amount if any at all.

I don't even like to talk about the scams. It's usually easy to spot them. The ones that claim you'll be rich over night is probably not something to get into. The companies that have been around for a while and have a good reputation are the ones to focus on. We should know people are earning money otherwise they wouldn't be around, would they?

People need to be aware that there really are some great opportunities for making money at home. Do the research and find the companies with a good reputation, products that people can use, and have been around for a while.

If you are interested in certain products, see if the company has an affiliate program to join so you can earn some money promoting them. Nothings better than promoting the products that you know, use and love.

Selling products for these companies is not like it was years ago when you had to stock the product and ship it yourself. Most of the time the stocking and shipping of the products is done by the company.

Now that I have earned some money on the internet and associate with lots of people who also earn money, I’m more determined than ever to get my business booming and make a very profitable income to make a better life for my family. I can also hand down my business to my children when they are older.

Even if it takes 3-5 years to make a huge financial difference in our lives, it will be well worth it, because it is mine and only mine. I can go as slow or as fast as I like and do it on my own terms. That is the best part of making money at home using the internet.

11 Biggest Mistakes People Make In Home Business

There are numerous mistakes that people make after getting into a home based business. This is usually the cause for failure so I would like to go through some of the most common mistakes people make.

1. Not treating this as a real business:
Because the cost is minimal, people don’t take it seriously. This is a real business with the potential to become extremely profitable. When you don’t invest much in your business, in the back of your mind you are thinking that you won’t have that much to loose should it not work out. This is a major cause for failure.

2. Not getting the right training:
You need to get specific specialized training in your particular field. You wouldn’t want a doctor operating on you if they haven’t been properly trained. You wouldn’t want a teacher trying to teach you if they haven’t been trained. You wouldn’t want a Golf Pro trying to teach you to play golf if they haven’t had any specialized training. A home based business is no different. You need specific specialized training in order to be successful.

3. Not building relationships:
There are so many people who prefer just making money off of other people. They don’t care about what is best for you. People join people these days because they want to know that they can rely on their sponsor to be there for them, that they care about them. If you have built a relationship first and down the road you choose to join another opportunity, they will follow you. Why? Because you became friends first and built a relationship.

4. Not following a proven system:
If you are always trying to come up with better ways to do things instead of following an already simple proven system, you will definitely fail. You have to understand the power of duplication. Quit trying to reinvent the wheel. That which is complicated hinders growth.

5. Not being your own best customer:
When you believe in your product, you will be unstoppable. If you use your product regularly, you will be able to share your own experience with your prospects and be your best customer. Create your own story with your own product.

6. Not telling stories:
The truth is that facts tell and stories sell. Not giving testimonials at all is a big mistake. Don’t answer product questions and compensation plan questions with facts. Give stories and tell results from others that have used it. An average marketer sells features, a good marketer sells benefits but a great marketer sells results.

7. Not spending enough time prospecting:
You need to spend 80% of your time on prospecting, 19% of your time on training and the remaining 1% of your time on problem solving. Do not get yourself in lead deficit disorder. Get with some lead advertising campaigns if necessary. Stop thinking about it and start doing it.

8. Not following up:
Most people don’t follow up because they are afraid of rejection. The fortune is in the follow up. A call says that you care who this person is. If you have built a relationship with them, they may be ready to sign up in another three weeks but wouldn’t have if you hadn’t followed up. Circumstances change, things happen, whatever the reason the prospect gave you at the time you last spoke, may not be the case when you follow up.

.9. Not asking for the order:
Don’t be afraid to ask for the order. Always use a closing script, ask six simple questions, ask for the order and then be quiet. The prospect will end up closing themselves. If you have opened the line of communication, the prospect will make up their own mind and do what they really want to do.

10. Buying excuses:
Excuses are just well planned lies. I’m too young, I’m too old, my friends would laugh at me, it’s too expensive, I don’t know if this if going to work, I don’t have enough money, I don’t have enough time, I can’t do this, etc. If you have excuses, so does your prospect. Let’s face it, if you want something bad enough there aren’t enough excuses in the world to stop you.

11. Not reinvesting back into their business:
Every business requires reinvesting. You have to reinvest back into yourself, your skills, your lead generation campaign, your advertising, etc. You have to reinvest in order to make more money. It’s crucial in order to be successful.

Don’t let any of these mistakes hinder your chances of reaching your goals. Stay on the right path and I will see you at the top.

Finding the Right Affiliate Program on the Internet

If you are thinking about becoming an affiliate for a company how do you know if it is the right one that suits you? You need to pick the right one or you will not do well in your promotions. The reason is that you may not feel as passionate about it, especially if you do not use or like the actual products.

Think about the things that interest you and do some research on the companies that provide the products. It is easier to promote if you have tried the products and have experience with them. Sometimes a testimonial from actual customers or users can make a difference with making that sale.

The company must be reputable and have a proven record for producing quality products that people want to buy. They should have a compensation plan that is fairly easy to understand and have the potential to be profitable. Why waste your time on a program if the compensation plan is too difficult to understand and requires way too much to make any money?

See what others say about a particular program. There are some sites that report on scams or programs that are not profitable enough to waste your time. There are also times when you will run in to some that thinks a program is a scam and others who report being successful with it. It is a combination of company reputation and what people are saying. Sometimes we can determine if a person just did not give it enough time or was serious about the business in the first place. If the company is good and people report positively, then it should be legitimate.

If you are not sure about the products a company offers it may be worth it to try some of them first. If they work for you or you enjoy using them, it will be a lot easier to promote that company. If you do not like it, move on to the next.

You may be wondering what an affiliate is. An affiliate is basically an advertiser or marketer for a company. If you advertise their products you will earn a percentage of the earning from each sale and on sales from the affiliate you bring in personally. This creates income from different levels and is also a residual income stream. This means that you will earn money from doing the job once. You bring in an affiliate, that was your job, now when they sell or bring in affiliates you earn from that. That requires no work on your part, just the initial recruiting of that person.

Some people are very scared of this type of business. There are scams, therefore people may associate all programs with all the scams. Think about a brick and mortar business. When you own a business you must pay people to do some of the work right? Whether it is paperwork, advertising, doing dishes, whatever, they are getting paid to do these things for you. Would you call it a scam? Of course not.

I think maybe people are scared of affiliate programs on the internet because they cannot see the people they are providing their services to. They do not go into an office everyday and have a particular job to do. They can work at their own speed in the comfort of their home. Once they realize that not all programs are scams, they may rethink ways to bring an income into the home.

4 Ways to Grow Your Affiliate Business

By: Jeff Casmer

It's no secret that if a merchant wants to grow their business they set up an affiliate program, but what about the affiliates? If affiliate marketing is your first business how do you plant the seeds of growth? How do you increase your commissions? And how you do it without working twice as hard? Below are four ways you can grow you affiliate business.

1.Multilevel programs

Always consider multilevel programs as opposed to programs where you are a lone warrior. Multilevel marketing allows you to gain your own affiliates. When someone joins the program under your link and then makes a sale you get a commission on that sale. This provides you with a way to increase your revenue without having to work as hard. True, you will have to work to recruit the affiliates but a good pitch can do that, and once you have them you'll have your own army in the battlefield and you won't be lone solider.

2.Ad persuasion

You will need to promote this has already been established after all, you're a marketer. But you want to avoid hard selling, or even advertising at all. This can be done by "socializing" in chat rooms, forums, blogs, and social networks like myspace or facebook. These networks are not for advertising but rather, to connect with people in your niche, those who offer products that you can sell and those looking for products that you sell. It's all about communicating; once you've established yourself it's easier to persuade people to buy your products. You'll already be a trusted member of the community. The best part is social networking is hardly work.

3.Get published

Free ebooks are not only a great resource for customers; they're also a great way for you to enhance your sales. Write an ebook related to your niche about something that you know. The trick is to demonstrate your knowledge, setting yourself as an expert in your field. In your e-book, include links to your affiliate programs that relate to your book. Let your readers know that the links are an extension of your book, a way for them to expand their knowledge and gain more help on the topic you've written about. By allowing your reader to pass on the e-book you increase your exposure and your sales.

4.Become a video star

You don't have to go Hollywood to do this. Simply create a video about one of your affiliate programs. Avoid selling the product or sounding like an advertisement. Instead, teach your viewer something that you learned in the book. For example, if you are promoting a book about advertising tips you can share one of the tips and then tell your viewer that they can learn more by buying your product. There are many places you can host your video, youtube, myspace, even ebay.

These are just a few examples you can use to help create greater commissions for yourself. As an affiliate marketer you'll need to be creative if you are serious about growing your business. Each day you are faced with more competition and more wary customers. Stay on top of what other affiliates are doing and you'll soon find yourself growing your business.
